About Melka

Melka Myers grew up in Highlands, New Jersey and currently resides in Northern Georgia, USA. She holds a BFA from Bard College in Annandale, NY and has also studied painting at SUNY Ulster, NY and Lacoste School of the Arts in Lacoste, France. Before returning her attention to fine art, Myers worked as a decorative painter and muralist in the Bay Area of California for over a decade.

Myers’ current work contemplates our planet’s biological future. Working from her imagination, forms are stretched and exaggerated to bring order and humor to an uncertain, post-human landscape. Anthropomorphic plants grow and evolve, forming and breaking ties to one another, while color adds vibrancy to their dynamic relationships. A nod to her past as a decorative artist, the smaller patterns and gradations within the larger forms invite a closer viewing.
